Kassa: Turning Scraps into Showstoppers

Kassa: Turning Scraps into Showstoppers

Founded by Aarushi Kumar and Arpan Patel, Studio Kassa is where art meets tradition, craft and eco-conscious design. The name 'Kassa' is derived from the Spanish word ‘casa,’ meaning 'home,' a fitting symbol for their mission: to harmonize art and design under one roof. Studio Kassa is a multidisciplinary brand that spans across various product categories, it's a brand that does it all, including bags, jewellery, apparel, furniture, home decor, watches, and sculptures. Each product line is thoughtfully designed to bring visual stories to life, both in online and offline spaces. With a commitment to sustainability, Kassa offers eco-friendly and stylish designs that celebrate artisanal craftsmanship and innovation, showing that good design doesn’t have to come at the cost of the planet.

In a place where we are bombarded with fast fashion, large entities, and constant overproduction and overconsumption at every turn, we have Kassa, which aims to break this cycle in multiple sectors with resource-respecting, artisan-made local products—in fashion, accessories, vegan cafés, and all the sectors they’ve stepped into and plan to expand into—all coloured by a slow, eco-friendly vision.

A Decade of Milestones

In 2024, Studio Kassa celebrated its 10-year journey of creative excellence. Since its inception in 2014, the brand has expanded its offerings to include jewellery, accessories, apparel, vegan coffee cafes, furniture, and stationery. With a vision to preserve and promote traditional Indian crafts and techniques that are on the brink of extinction, Kassa aims to showcase these heritage art forms on a global platform, as they believe, supporting local artisans and ethical business practices is the foundation for creating truly meaningful, sustainable work.

Craftsmanship and Sustainability

At the heart of Studio Kassa, there is a shared commitment to design, sustainability and craftsmanship. The brand works closely with skilled artisans from Jaipur, India, using time-honoured techniques such as the ancient lost-wax casting method to create exquisite handmade jewellery. Each jewellery piece is crafted from 18K gold-plated brass in limited quantities, ensuring exclusivity and reducing waste.

Kassa also focuses on upcycling and recycling materials to minimize its environmental impact. The brand's upcycled bags are made from all-weather leather and canvas, while its handmade jewellery often incorporates existing resources, ditching virgin materials. Seasonal collections, like their festive upcycled rakhis, are crafted from leftover pieces of their fossil jewellery collection, turning waste into beautiful, meaningful products.

Sustainability in Apparel & Upcycled Bags

Studio Kassa's collections, such as the Forest line, feature exclusive, luxurious sustainable fashionable bags. These collections use deadstock leather. For their eco-friendly clothing, they use traditional methods like block printing from rural Jaipur, Rajasthan. The brand also experiments with hybrid materials that resemble paper but are both durable and recyclable.

Local Artisans and Global Recognition

Kassa's continuous commitment to supporting local artisans and sustainable creations has earned recognition from popular publications such as The New Indian Express and Cosmopolitan India, which have mentioned their sustainable concepts and exclusive upcycling. Vogue India's 'How to Explore Jaipur Beyond the Tourist Traps' by Aparna Pednekar also authentically mentions the local sustainable wares and traditional crafts by Kassa in Jaipur. Their work brings much-needed sustainable creative expression to everyday life, creating classic pieces that resonate with conscious consumers. Celebrating craftsmanship and supporting traditional art forms, Kassa is a brand and a movement towards maintaining cultural heritage and sustainability in the fashion and lifestyle sectors.

The Sustainable Showstopper

Studio Kassa’s dedication to sustainable luxury has not gone unnoticed on the global stage. At the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Kassa jewels adorned the red carpet, worn by artists who enjoy and appreciate eco-friendly fashion. Their handcrafted pieces shine as sustainable showstoppers, with a display of quality-made pieces and ethical practices.

The Road Ahead

As Studio Kassa steps into its next decade, the brand is focused on expanding its impact by continuously pushing the boundaries of sustainable design. They aim to take Indian crafts and techniques to global platforms while staying true to their core values of sustainability and craftsmanship. Studio Kassa plans to expand the community of conscious consumers bigger and bigger, inspiring change to be part of this journey—to support local artisans, embrace sustainable fashion, and celebrate the beauty of exclusive handmade creations
