About Us

Refash is not just a brand. We are a global movement to make waste obsolete.

As the world’s largest platform for upcycling, we are bringing together designers, founders, and artisans who believe in the power of reinvention. Every product we retail proves that nothing is "waste" until labelled so—every story we share challenges conventions and makes you rethink. Through our community, voices are amplified, ideas thrive, and actions are enabled to ripple outward.

This is Refash.

Why? The world generates an average of 0.74 kg of waste per person every day- multiplied by 8 billion, the numbers are disastrous. By 2050, global waste is projected to hit 3.40 billion tonnes, growing at twice the rate of the population.

Yet, 90% of this waste could have been recycled, reused, or upcycled.

Our vision is to create a world where nothing is considered "waste" and landfills don't exist. We hope to create a circular economy where all products are re-used again and again, in different ways and waste is not an option.

Founder story:

Akanksha’s journey to founding Refash began with a simple observation- India, a land known for its craftsmanship, lacked a multi-billion dollar homegrown fashion brand, despite its vast talent and resources. Working across different aspects of the fashion industry- from social media management to sourcing fabrics and supporting slum communities on the weekend- Akanksha gained hands-on experience in how fashion operated at every level while silmontaneously finding herself in the space of wanting to give back to the community.

Her father ran a manufacturing business for beaded prom dresses, and this exposure to both manufacturing and retail showed her the extent of waste generated in the fast fashion industry. The fast-paced demand for “newness” in both e-commerce and brick and mortar retail led to unsustainable practices, with excessive inventory and fabric waste.

After the closure of her family business, Akanksha took a step back, searching for a larger purpose beyond just retail. Attending a workshop in Bombay in 2018 became a pivotal moment, where she saw firsthand how simple tweaks to existing garments could make them look brand new. Inspired by this, she realized upcycling could not only give fashion a second life but also serve a greater cause- reducing waste while offering guilt-free luxury.

This insight led her to launch Refash, which started by featuring upcycling brands globally on her platform.

Today, Refash’s mission extends far beyond retail. Akanksha envisions a world where upcycling becomes a lifestyle. Her goal is for every brand to adopt a Refash section, making upcycling a standard in fashion.
