Humans Are Meant to Create, Not Just Watch and Consume

Stop what you are doing right now and think for a second about the last time you made something with your hands or your ideas.

It could have been a meal, a poem, or even a simple repair, when you probably felt the most alive and connected to yourself. And if you look at our history, it is obvious that humans are meant to create. We have always built, invented, and evolved through the things we make.

Regardless of age, you remember the drawing you sketched as a child, the meal you cooked from memory, the outfit you put together for the first time, or the first chai you made for your mom or dad.

You, we, all of us humans are wired to create, think, and imagine, and our brain gets happy when we make things. You will always remember the moments where you created something. On the contrary, consuming social media or the same shopping apps does the opposite. It drains you and slowly addicts you to consumption.

And today, somewhere between next day delivery and 54 micro seasons, we forgot that humans are wired for imagination. When we talk about clothes specifically, fast fashion has eliminated creativity and made it a passive activity where you scroll, buy, and repeat.

With the same silhouettes and the same aesthetics appearing every few days, your brain stops asking what you like and settles for what you are shown.

How Fast Fashion Erases Independent Designers

Independent designers are the first to pay the price for this in fashion.

When the market is made for speed, there goes originality, and the artists, small studios, and experimental thinkers are pushed out until they disappear. Knockoff designs show up as cheap versions within days. This is why so many of us dress the same and look the same.

Constant consumption numbs your ability to recognise your true taste and stops you from exploring who you are. And consumption without creation disconnects you from yourself.

Upcycling Brings Your Creativity Back to Life

Upcycling is one of the simplest ways to reclaim the creative part of yourself. With a simple sew, dye, repair, or reinterpretation of a piece, you become the active maker again.

The beauty of upcycling is that it does not demand technical skill or perfection. You just need to try. Humans thrive when they make things and creativity is like a muscle - it gets weaker when it is unused and stronger when it is exercised.

So now, go get messy painting, start sewing, write that song, make that recipe you searched for, and do not dim your imagination.

Also do not forget that the human impulse is not to consume endlessly, but we are made to create meaningfully. Cheers to all your creative perspectives and everything amazing you are about to make.
