FAQ's

What is REFASH?

REFASH is a movement of refashioning and upcycling old discarded garments and accessories into slow, ethical, contemporary pieces of fashion.

What is upcycling?

Upcycling, also known as creative re-use, is the process of transforming waste materials, useless and / or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value.

How is upcycling different from recycling?

The process of upcycling adds value to the materials whereas recycling decreases its value. Most often, what we consider recycling is actually downcycling, because it involves disintegrating the product to its raw material form and then using it to create a new product. For example - if we take a used glass bottle, melt it and with the molten glass we make a lampshade, that's recycling. If instead, we take the same bottle, clean it and directly use it as the shade of our new lamp, that's upcycling.

What is sustainable fashion?

Sustainable fashion can be defined as clothing, shoes and accessories that are manufactured, marketed and used in the most sustainable manner possible, taking into account both environmental and socio-economic aspects. In practice, this implies continuous work to improve all stages of the product's life cycle, from design, raw material production, manufacturing, transport, storage, marketing and final sale, to use, reuse, repair, remake and recycling of the product and its components.
